A northern Minnesota lake cottage with a focus on family. Ascend a rising cherry staircase to the heart of this home: an expansive family room beneath a great vaulted ceiling. Nearby, bedrooms for the owners’ college-age daughters provide easy access to this family space, while the utilitarian living room and kitchen are on the first floor.
A celebration of master woodwork. The owners, an accomplished amateur woodworker and his wife, also wanted to display the natural variation and beauty of various wood species throughout the home but especially in the family room. Nor-Son brought the couple’s vision to life through details like a cherry staircase, vaulted ceilings finished in beaded alder and re-sawn white pine timbers (reclaimed from a St. Paul, Minnesota railroad roundhouse).
